SOT: Les Stroud video tools

I was just reading on Gizmodo about Les Stroud's upcoming TV series "Beyond Survival." He said he's now using tapeless camcorders like the Sony EX3.

What alarmed me is that he said he's using a MacBook Pro to store the data from the camcorder! Is he going over to the "dark side?"

I've started learning FCP and just doing basic things like getting the dang video into it takes way longer than using Vegas. Me no like.....

Well, I was never a big fan of his to begin with ...
of course, I don't need to think much of him, it appears he thinks enough of himself for all of us (ooooo, was that my outside voice?) . . . (wink)
There are many other, more personable online instructors who can grab and hold my attention... with just as much, or more, know-how and skill than he . . .

To be fair, just because he is using a Mac to record his field work, his move to FCP as an editor is not a given ... especially if he is a fan of Sony cameras; why would he move away from a Sony editor ... I'm holding off final judgment until all the facts are in. . . (grin)

Just my opinion - your mileage may vary...

Until that time ... Earl J.

I don't know why you would assume that he is using FCP. A Macbook Pro is a good piece of hardware. Many folks prefer it as a portable over the PC offerings because it just holds up well.

A Macbook Pro runs FCP, Adobe, Avid, and YES Vegas Pro. I a lot of Vegas evangelists that I know run it on a Macbook Pro because of the hardware's performance.

Is it possible Apple is contributing to/sponsoring part of the production?

What Keith said. . . (grin)
MACs are quite suitable for running Windows as well as it runs OS X ...

well, they're (basicly) a PC's with a different OS.

Makes total sense they'd be good Windows boxes too.

Well guys, I wasn't really assuming he was going to actually use FCP instead of Vegas. I just wanted to see if anybody knew what the story was.

Apple pays for product placement on many TV shows. I must have seen the Apple logo on laptops at least ten times on different shows this past week alone!
Dell and HP both do product placement as well, though I see a lot less of them.

I would be very surprised if anybody would voluntarily switch from Vegas to FCP. I'm learning how to use it only because ads for editors invariably say "must know FCP and/or Avid." :-(
