sound card advise

I recently bought the Canopus ACEDVio and had all types of problems with preview to monitor and print to tape and crackling audio....

I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out the problem and just as I was about to make the choice of returing the Canopus card I realized that the sound seemed to be interfering with the video signal so I tried switching the cards around as the Audigy 2 was sharing an IRQ. I managed to get all componets on there own IRQ's which helped a bit but the drop out and preview where still unstable.

So I decided to pull the Audigy 2 card out of the computer and use the onboard audio and everything was perfect.

So now that I know these cards don't agree with each other I'm trying to decide on a new audio solution - I've been looking at the M-Audio Sonica Theater external USB sound device or the Audigy 2 NX external USB.
(I'm thinking external because I'm afraid that the Canopus card won't agree with any PCI sound card because it has on board Stereo audio)

Does any body have experience with these boxes and will they work with Vegas and Acid in 5.1 surround? Do they install ASIO drives as well or do you need an internal PCI card for ASIO?

Thanks,
Mike

Anything from Echo will rock, the new M-Audio cards are good. I'm not a fan of USB audio anything, I prefer either PCI or Firewire/i.Link/1394. Much less hassle. The audigy cards are almost always rough to deal with.
All Echo cards and M-Audio cards have ASIO drivers available

Thanks Spot,

Can't seem to find much on Echo cards? Can you recomend one?
5.1 is a must and optical and/or coaxial in/out would be nice.
Around a $200.00 budget

Thanks

Hmmm...Echo isn't gonna have a 5.1 output for 200.00. All their products are professional products.
www.echoaudio.com is their website. 5.1 is gonna cost you in the starting range of 400.00 or so. Of course there are consumer cards, but if you're looking for good audio, they won't provide it.
http://www.vasst.com/dvdproducts/nht-sound.htm watch stream#1, might help you a little.

Thanks again, that was informative - makes sence!
Would you recommend this set up and where might I get it for the best price?

Gina3G PCI Audio Interface

Thanks - much appreciated!

The Gina is a GREAT card, while it doesn't have all the features of the bigger cards, it's a very nice, professional card.
Sorry, couldn't tell you where to buy it...B&H just started carrying Echo, and their prices are usually pretty competitive, same with Sweetwater Sound, too. Google it, I'm sure you'll find great deals out there.

For a bit more you can get the 410?
Mine was I think $299 from Sweetwater.
