Sound Forge 7 and Vegas 4 bug?

StormMarc wrote on 11/13/2003, 5:15 PM
I can repeat this problem over and over.

1. Try to open a copy of a stereo AVI file in Sound Forge 7 and I get a low memory error.

2. If I choose to open the original file (not a copy) in Sound Froge I have no problem.

3. If I change the channels of the file (in Vegas) to left or right only and then try to open a copy in Sound Forge I have no problems.

Anyone care to try an repeat this? I thought I was having system problems but recently did a fresh XP reinstall but the problem still exists.

Thanks,

Marc

how much RAM do you have?

I'm running a P4 2.2 gig machine with 1 gig of crucial memory. It's definately either a bug or some conflict with my hardware. Everything else runs perfectly. I am also using the AC-97 audio built into my motherboard.

I had this EXACT same problem. See this thread:

I emailed SF for a solution but never got an answer. There is definitely something wrong. I haven't had the occasion to do this lately, so I put it on the back burner....

I just did a test of this... and it worked fine for me. Just so you are clear on what I did... I had an AVI clip on a Vegas time-line (stereo), right clicked on the audio track and selected "open copy in Sound Forge", and the file opened up perfectly without error.

Vegas 4.0d, SF 7.0 (with NR2), Win XP, 1.0GB RAM.

Liam,

Yes that's the same thing that cause my problem.

Dan,

Glad to know I'm not the only one. In my old install I also had the exception errors (sometimes) which would shut down Vegas. My setp-up is as follows. Perhaps we can find a common component.

Intel Motherboard D845EBG2
P4 2.2
XP Pro with latest service packs
Radeon 8500LE 128 (with latest drivers)
1 gig crucial memory
AC-97 Audio (windows sounds turned off)
Pyro firewire
Canopus DV Storm card
7200 rpm 60 gig system drive
Promise ATA-100 card with 4 WD 120 gig drives (8 meg buffer)
