Sound Forge and Vegas

scout94 wrote on 11/8/2005, 11:09 AM
I have an important project to put together so it is time for me to upgrade from Vegas Movie Studio to the full version of Vegas. I also need Noise Reduction 2 plugin to clean up the audio. My question to the forum is what if any benefits would I gain by adding Sound Forge to compliment Vegas? Is it necessary for work done primarily in Vegas? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sound Forge and Vegas go together like peanut butter and jelly.
They both work fine on their own, but each compliments each other nicely.
Forge is faster for fine, deep audio edits. Vegas is close, but no cigar. I prefer doing NR in Forge, although Vegas manages it just fine too.
What benefits? Faster 2track editing, faster overall processes when you've got multiple timelines. More options for just about everything.

I absolutely agree. I'm new to Vegas, and relatively new to SF, but the two programs work together BEAUTIFULLY. I also have Sonar 4 and SF integrates with it perfectly.

Sonar = Multitrack audio, MIDI & soft synths/samplers
SF = Wav editing & noise reduction
Vegas = Video & post-production audio work

All Three = PRICELESS

Sound Forge is expensive! And EXCELLENT! However, play with Vegas before you go out and spend $300 on Sound Forge. Vegas has some awesome audio tools that rival the "big guns". The only reason I would purchase Sound Forge is to have access to its audio statistics for working with AC-3. Vegas lacks the necessary tools and info to ACCURATELY configure and encode AC-3.

Unless you really need sound forge, I would suggest getting Vegas, and the Bias Sound Soap plug in:

Works very well for me, and costs around $80.00

If you need both Sound Forge and Noise Reduction, look for the bundles. The two of them are often bundled with CD Architect.

I usually use Google's Froogle tool to shop on the web and I found this deal from there.

Thanks for all the great input, I tend to think that Sound Forge might be a bit over my head right now but I would like to learn it so might as well jump in with both feet. The bundle price from Safe Harbor is very good so good in fact that I have to ask if it is to good to be true. Is Safe Harbor really safe? Thanks again for all the valuable information.

I've used Save Harbor many times with absolutely no problems. If they're selling the full product (not the Academic version), you're probably good to go.

I have used Safe Harbor and they are practically in my back yard ( I'm in Milwaukee they are just a bit west) They also have a very tempting price with rebate for Acid Pro 5 I am starting to shake........
