It was never clear to me if SCS "acquired" the Spectral Layers product, or will just sell it -- maybe integrate it. Spectral Layers appears to be both PC and Mac. The Sony announcement said it will be available this summer.
Spectral Layers - new SCS development cycle for the Mac and PC - NOT !!!!!- please these were all bough items from other development code -just as most SCS software actually is.
"Maybe it was actually referring to the new Spectral Layers thingy being announced, not SF."
Nope, I'm 100% convinced that it's Soundforge for the Mac. For a brief time, very clear evidence of this appeared in this forum -- but then the thread was removed. I won't repeat the details -- if SCS removed the thread they don't want that knowledge public yet, and I'll respect that.
(But I'm 100% convinced...)

It's 100% guaranteed that it's Forge.
Simply go to FinallyOnTheMac.com and let the site load...the third video will also load. Then click the YouTube icon (lower right) to go out to YT...and near the top you will see a button that says 4 Videos...Load the new 4th one (that for reasons unknown - does NOT appear on the FinallyOnTheMac site) and then step thru it slowly.
The full Forge interface is easy to spot.
OT - given the already old, stale outdated nature of the FinallyOnTheMac site - which I must admit was kinda interesting - right up to the point when they STOPPED using it (Yeah - I am talking to you - whoever is responsible for not posting of new clips) - I am truly baffled as to why SCS would go to all the trouble of getting this "secret" domain, sticking up a site, building a buncha hype, laying out the first few clips...and then...suddenly stop doing it.
Shouldn't the 4th clip actually be on the new site? Instead of having to cruise to YouTube to see it? And how about the 5th one? It's been over two weeks already....
Sounds like whoever came up with this idea decided it was old hat as soon as one of us found out it's Forge. But I guess when you put up clips full of the new interface - it's bound to get out.
http://www.finallyonthemac.com/ is updated now to include the fourth video (which was posted to YouTube on July 17). Maybe they just forgot to update it?
Some of the initial YouTube comments on the earlier videos (probably from Mac users) were kind of slamming the videos, but I like them -- I think they're catchy and pretty cool. I agree -- this has been fun.
Just watched the video & paused it on a GUI frame.
Forge looks good on the Mac!
I've felt like the SCS apps have needed a bit of a face lift for a while. Although I respect others opinions on liking the SQUARE/Windows 2000 look of the apps, I've hated them for a while. Even used WindowBlinds to re-skin SCS apps.
Forge is a good choice as the first app to go Mac as it has no direct competition. Audacity, DSP-Quattro, Wave Editor, Sound Studio, Amadeus Pro, WaveLab, Soundblade
I hope once SCS goes Mac we'll also be able to darken/lighten the GUI's. -Staring into a bright light in a dark room takes its toll.
I get the vibrations that this was a very high decision from the very high mucky-mucks in the very high of the highest decision people and not SCS.

This is a sign of the times. I have just started working for one of the top Post/Effects companies in the world and the only Windows machines in the building are in the accounts department. Saying that the majority of machines are running Linux, but there are more Macs every day. Apple could change all of that with there obsession with their current anti-enterprise strategy.
The Apple Mac has been losing market share for the last 10 years - simple as that. It used to be that public schools were entirely equipped with Mac (no PC) and wow ohh has that ever changed. In my grad school 20years ago - the serious students were identified using Macs in the labs and in personal use. Not any more.
In the graphics industry Mac was king until Photoshop and Adobe Premiere became serious contenders on the PC. It used to be any public relations house or advertising agency was committed soley to Mac users. Now it is not so predominant.
Why the fuss about Mac and Apple growing now? Don't think it to be possible.

I can't imagine where you got that perception.
According to data from Gartner and IDC, Apple is strongly gaining market share in the personal computer industry. Year to year market share growth for 4Q2012 vs 4Q2011 shows Apple up +20.7% while the industry leader HP is down -26.1%, Dell is down -4.5%, Toshiba is down -2.2% and Acer is down -11.4%. All others combined only grew 12% so Apple is double that and the only personal computer company in the top 5 that is growing their market share.
I'm not looking to start an Apple vs PC discussion. That's a personal preference (my house just dumped 4 windows laptops in favor of 2 MacBook Pro's and 2 MacBool Air's). I'm just stating what the market trends are based on the companies that watch these things for a living are saying.
"The Apple Mac has been losing market share for the last 10 years - simple as that."
Well, that's just not true.
In 2002, Apple's marketshare for the fourth quarter was 3.0 percent, rising year-over-year from 2.9 percent in 2001. In 2012, their market share is 10.92 percent. Both numbers are from International Data Corp.
Just 13 years ago, Apple was near bankruptcy. Today, they are the most valuable company in the world. Not the most valuable tech company. The most valuable company in the world, period.
And the growth of Mac use, or OSX, has only grown in that time. They are still a long way from dominating the desktop market, but with the release of Windows 8, which early reports indicate is a disaster that will make Vista look like a success, Apple desktops could soon be replicating the success of the iPhone and iPad. See this article on OSX growth: http://gigaom.com/apple/macs-still-growing-while-rest-of-u-s-pc-market-stagnates/
I think that Sony is very forward-looking in their porting to Sony Creative products on the Mac.
I don't mind Macs in general, but they're severely overpriced for what they are, and personally I wouldn't buy one unless that changed. If I moved away from Windows entirely, it would be to Linux; but ideally I like having at least 2 high-end desktops in the house, one on Windows and the other on Linux. I like building systems myself, as well, and I'm constantly fiddling and adding things, so Macs are less than ideal. As locked-down as Macs are, both in terms of hardware and software, they'll never be particularly popular with enthusiasts who like to build their own systems, whether they favour Windows or Linux.
It'll be interesting to see what SCS does with OSX versions of their software in the future, but I can guarantee one thing. If this move causes the PC products... especially Vegas... to be neglected, SCS is going to be losing many PC customers regardless of how many OSX users they might gain. Vegas still needs a great deal of work; and hopefully the Windows version of Sound Forge should be getting a new version soon, as well, carrying over new features implemented in the OSX version.
