Sound Graph issue

I'm trying to mix two sound tracks and I need the beat to match. the problem is that the graphical representation of the sound in the time line doesn't show much vertical deviation from the line....the time line is flat. The sound is fine though. I did a test with just a voice microphone and had the same probelm. How can I record with more "oomph" to get a line with a lot of ups and downs I can use to mix the beat, turn up what I have, or zoom in to see the graph changes better, but not have the whole track get huge?
TIA

You can amplify some by right clicking - Switches - Normalize.

Try to get the two sound tracks under each other in the timeline and add markers (press M) to the tracks following the beat of each track - easily done by counting i.e. 1-2-3-4-M1-2-3-4-M1 etc.

Having done this you can see how much you must drag one of the tracks to allign it precisely to the other. If the soundtracks are from 2 different recordings you can stretch/compress one of the tracks - Vegas can do this with/without changing the pitch.

When the tracks are alligned you can choose one or the other track using volume envelopes.
