If you have a look at the preferences, under the Audio Device tab, it might be set to Microsoft Sound Mapper (mine is). Change it to whatever your sound card is.

I can't be certain it will work, but I had a similar issue when I removed my Creative Xi-Fi card - errors regarding ASIO. (It seems that the Creative uninstaller doesn't uninstall.)

Where do you find the preference option? Is that within SVP or your laptop? (Sorry, I'm new to all this)

In SVP at the top: Options >> Preferencies...

Also if you are using a DAW system like studio one to create your audio tracks for the videos and that program is open it will override your sound and cause it to give you the same error reading if you open sony vegas
