sound noise

I use vers. 7.0e. I have a Sony Digital8 camera. I tried capturing some video and I get intermittent noise. It's hard to discribe, sort of a muffled banging. I thought it was loud wind noise at first. When I hook up my camera directly to a tv, I don't get the noise, only when capturing through firewire. I tried it on both computers and it does the same thing. I also tried another firewire cable. It may be the connection in my camera, but I just captured another tape and that worked fine. Any ideas what it might be or how to solve it?

Are you using the built-in mic? Maybe it's picking up the motor, zoom motor, and transport noises. I know that on my PD-150s, the shotgun mic picks up these, particularly when nearing the end of the tape for the transport. Never bothered me since I always use double-system sound on my shoots. That you don't hear it through the TV could only mean that the poor response of the tv audio isn't up to reproducing it.

You need to do some testing to eliminate possible causes, such as using a mic external to the camera, and even feeding the audio directly from the camera to a suitable sound system.

Our family old Sony Digital8 had a bad firewire connector.

Gaffer tape your camera and cable to your desk so they don't move
and try capture both tapes.

If still on one tape only, bad tape.

Same tape brand??? If not, try cleaning the heads on the camera.

I just got a Sony/NEC Lightscribe burner so I could label my DVDs I make. It didn't come with any software so I'm just using the free Windows version (which I believe is HP branded). I tried to find some information on Sony's site to see if there was software through them, but I didn't come up with anything. I'm not sure how this whole lightscribe thing works and what I can use so that I could be more creative than just using the free software program, which is very limited.

Google "Sure Thing CD/DVD Labeler" or go to Amazon and read reviews about it. I have a basic Lightscribe freebie version that was preloaded on my HP computer when purchased 18 months ago. Although it will print text and pre-loaded graphics, the HP software will not allow users to import their own digital images. Sure Thing does. I installed it and have used it probably 10 times thus far and been very pleased with it.

Others may have suggestions for other programs but this one suits my needs just fine. Good luck to you.
