Sound reversed during render

This is a strange one.

I created a bunch of regions, and then used the Batch GUI script to render these regions into individual NTSC DV files. I've done this doznes of times before. However, an hour ago, I did this, and every single one of the resulting DV AVI files had the audio playing backwards!!

I puzzled over this for a few moments, and not being able to come up with any reason as to why this should have happened, I went back and re-opened the VEG file for the project, and once again rendered the regions using the Batch GUI script (i.e., I did the exact same thing again). This time everything rendered normally, as it has the many dozens of times that I've done this before.

I searched this forum for "audio reverse render," but didn't find anything.

This isn't a big deal, since I've already gotten around the problem, but if anyone knows of a bug, or of some strange thing I might have done to cause this to occur, I'd sure like to know. It only cost me about fifteen minutes in rendering time on this project, but on a larger project -- especially one on a deadline -- this could be a real killer.

I thought this was fixed in 4.0d. Anyway, if you used the shuttle command for reverse ("J") eight before you rendered, it did this.

Hopethis helps!

It's happened to me too (about 3 weeks ago?) . I thought it was a great script for rendering regions (I was using it for the first time). I did a search in the script forum and nothing there. So I just thought nobody really batch rendered regions like I wanted to. Yet, when I just did a normal batch render with the script, audio was fine. I tried the script again a week ago with the region checked and everything was fine. I don't recall doing anything differently. I'm sorry I can't add any useful information other than telling you you're not crazy.

As already mentioned, the audio will record backwards if the last time you played the video on the timeline you played it backwards (used the "J" key). Weird.

So, this means we actually do have a way to reverse audio in Vegas? ;) Can we make this into an official feature?

Perfect! Thanks to all of you that came up with this.

Yes, I definitely used the "J" key to scrub backwards prior to rendering.

Also -- Sony, if you are out there -- I am definitely using Vegas 4.0d, so this bug exists in this "current" release.

Ummmm.... The "current" release is 4.0e.

Good point. However, AFIK, this release didn't change any code, didi it? I thought it was just a "Sony Logo" release, and one of the Sony forum people said not to bother with the update.

AFAIK, this did not change between "D" and "E". There were a few changes (as shown in the readme on the download page) but nothing significant in this area.

Sorry guys: close, but no cigar. The audio does render backwards, but it also has a very strange "echo" effect, making it pretty much useless.

Nice try at spinning a defect into a virtue, though. I remember back in my days at Apple (around when the Mac was first introduced) the common phrase was, "If you can't fix it, feature it." One of those "The glass is half-full, not half-empty" kinds of things!
