Never used Sound Soap but I have used Vegas Noise reduction and it is wonderful for removing hiss and hum's.

Very very seldom have I used noise reduction. Since I'm the one recording, I can control how much noise is coming in.

I've had good luck with the Waves stuff in times where I was restoring vinyl recordings.

I'm not big on these plugins though. They help, but they knock your high end out and cause lots artifacts.

brandonjury1,
I find NR indispensable on audio for video projects, even on the material I record.

It must be nice to have complete and absolute control over every person, element and track on a project. Recording studio OR location.

Perhaps your trying to use excessive amounts of NR or possably using it incorrectly. ie: an accurate noise print.

Also, there tend to be fewer artifacts after multiple passes using small noise-reduction % than with one pass at large %. In Sony NR 2.0, the default 12% works pretty well.
This assumes taking a new noise profile after each pass.
