Sound stops and starts in Vegas project

Hi for the last few weeks when I play a project in Vegas Pro the sound cuts in and out.

There are no static noises, the audio just stops and the project goes silent and then it starts again.

The image plays fine but the sound just comes and goes.

I have been looking at forums and comments and they suggest it cound be Sound Forge.

Does this seem likely?

Should I just uninstall it?

I have totally uninstalled AMD drivers and reinstalled them so this is not the issue.

If anyone can help I would be grateful.

I have also seen that changing the audio device to Windows Classic Wave Driver may help. It was on Microsoft Sound Mapper. I have made this change and it seems to help a bit but still some sound cutting out. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

What format is the source file?
Do all file types exhibit the same behavior?

The audio is the sound track of an MP4. I only edit with this really as I have used Vegas Pro since 2023 and this is a new problem. Just the last few weeks.
