I believe you can run the audio out of your sound card to your monitor. Dont know what'll happen if you run it to your camcorder..

Unless you know of some company that makes speakers with a firewire input, there might be a company that sells them, I'm not sure. Maybe Someone might know of a company that makes them???

Why don't you use RCA cables or mini-1/4 plug. If your audio card supports it why don't you output via XLR cables. I know sound blaster has digital out so you can connect to 5.1 speakers, it makes for great gaming and presentation. Believe me the surroud sound is amazing.

If you still really want to output audio via firewire there's a converter Made by DATA VIDEO called a DAC-1 digital to analog meadia converter. Sells for about $600. It has DV in/out, the analog audio in/out uses RCA cables.

I hope this helps you.

If you want to hear the audio in the external monitor either alone or in addition to your computer speakers grab a "Y" adapter (about $2.00 at Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc.) and plug that into your audio out in the back of your computer. Route one cable from the "Y" to your computer speakers as before, route a second to the audio in of your TV. Unless you have them in your junk box you'll need extra cable and/or another adapter with one end a RCA plug and the other a cable that mates with your audio out on your PC.

Also, during "Print to tape", the audio gets embedded in the video frames, so you camcorder or converter box will output audio then. But not during regular playback.

The DataVideo DAC-1 is no longer made. It is replaced with the DAC-2, which is even better. Prices vary from $529 to $699 (Academic pricing up to full list and beyond). Shop carefully.
