Hello,
I'm needing to get 24-bit SoundDesigner II format files to
a mastering engineer. Does anyone have suggestions for
converting from 24-bit .wav or .aiff files to SoundDesigner
II format on a PC?
Thanks,
Brett
Wow, I'm surprised that anyone still uses sound designer as
a mastering program, didn't convert to the protools audio
suite? Well anyways, if you want to remain in the 24bit
realm, then you'll have to save to a 24bit wav. file and
then open it in Wavelab, which supports 24bit files....or
convert to 16bit wav. and open it in sound forge. Being a
mastering engineer, I prefer my stuff arriving on a cd
which is 16bit 44.1khz, so why don't you just burn a cd
master?

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the help. I'm interested in giving the
mastering engineer 24-bit files so that I get the extended
bit-depth for eq, processing, etc. and then him do the 16-
bit output with appropriate dither, etc.

If his program can support 24bit, it would almost certainly
be able to convert .wav or .aiff files to SDII. Even
ancient AVID MC's do .aiff to .SDI/II-

Oops, silly me. I reversed your original question. I
thought you were going SDII to .Wav. I believe Sound
Designer II also opens .aiff files, I'm not sure about .wav
files. Vegas will allow you to save to .aiff although, I
had a fellow engineer friend, tell me he couldn't open .aif
files saved from Vegas on his Mac protools system, but he
was able to open .Wav files he saved with Vegas. I don't
know any programs off hand that will save to SDII format on
the PC side. I recommend you save to all major formats
like .wav,.aif,and .snd and hope he can open one of those
with Sound Designer. If anything else, once you are able
to get it on his MAC, there's a program called "Wave
convert" which will convert your audio files from any
format to almost any format available including SDII.
