Why can't we use a Sound Forge Project file (i.e. a .frg) in VP? Seems like that would be a nice way to get non-destructive audio editing. ??? Am I missing something. SCS has implimented the imbedding of Hitfilm project files but not their own software......
Two different types of audio apps. SF is an editing/mastering app, VP is multi-track. There's a difference. An audio event (or file) can be opened up in SF from within Vegas.. > Right-click the event and select the option 'Open copy in SF or Open . Open copy will create a new Take, with just the Vegas TL event (non-destructive), Open will access the entire original audio file and any alterations will be permanent (destructive) when saved.
I use SF extensively on audio-post projects with Vegas, PTs or other multi-track apps.
Yeah, I understand Open and Open Copy. However the file is destructively edited. You can't go back to undo an edit once it is complete in SF. This is why the .frg files were created. They are an edit list, an audio equivalent of a .veg. It would be nice to be able to do an edit in SF with a save as .frg so that small tweeks could be made after the initial edit, rather than destructive edit after destructive edit (or conversely starting with the root file from scratch in the case of "copy"). Imagine doing an edit in SF that included a volume envelope, a bit of reverb, and a bit of compression. If it doesn't turn out the way you (or your customer) wanted you have to start from scratch under the current system. If it was linked to a .frg file you could tweek a couple of points on the envelope or exchange the reverb for a delay or chorus, etc. etc.
