There are probably a number of ways, but here are some thoughts:

On the first one, your 1st (lower) track would be the video track with the kids in the field. You could then overlay a track with a solid blue color (from the text & backdrops tab in lower left of Movie Studio). On the solid blue track you could set the transparency such that the lower track would show through. Then add a cookie cutter effect so that only a vertical bar shows from the blue track. As for the blurring on the right and left edge of the picture, I'm guessing you could use a similar cookie cutter technique with blur effects. What I'd wonder is if all of this is possible with only 3 video tracks; might need to produce an intermediary clip to do it all.

As for the effect next to "EASY DVD CREATION" I'm thinking that you'd do a similar solid color (white) track with a cookie cutter effect to get the white bar on the right side of the screen. You would then take a still of the screen and save it as an image file, then use that image file as the background image in DVD Architect Studio. From there use the built-in features of DVD Architect Studio to place your menu items on top of the white bar.

Thanks gogiants, you're a Master.

Not sure about that! I'll be curious to hear if anyone else has ideas on doing things like the examples...

I was trying your trick but I don't know how to set the transparency to a solid color. I tried with the manual, I tried with the F1 key and I tried with my fantasy... but no luck.

I feel stupid but I'm not able to add a cookie cutter effect to display a vertical bar but only a small or big rectangle.

In going back and looking at this, I realized it wasn't as obvious as I made it sound! So, after some trial and error, here is what I did; no doubt there are many other ways. I'll make it as easy to recreate as possible; you'll need to adapt this to your own project.

1) Open a new project and slap something onto the bottom video track. (Text, photo, video, whatever.)
2) Go to "text and backdrops" in the bottom left of your VMS screen. Choose "Solid Color". (Blue if we're doing exactly what's shown on the Sony site.) Place this event on top of the track from step 1.
3) Go to "Video FX" and choose cookie cutter. Choose "Picture in Picture" and drag it onto your top (blue solid color) track.
4) Go to the details for the FX (click on the green FX in lower right of the track). For Shape choose "Square". For "Method" choose "Cut away all but section." Set feather & border to 0. Repeat X set to 1. Repeat Y set to 10. Size set to something like .1.
5) You should be able to move the location of the blue bar by moving around the little widget in the lower-left part of the FX settings window.
6) Adjust transparency of your solid blue track by mousing over the top edge of the event, then left-click and drag down the transparency setting bar.

To truly get the blur effect shown on the web site I guess you'd need to play with blur effects on the bottom-most track.
