Specifiy a replacement file help

One of my WD external hard drives has gone bad. I am trying to save about a week's worth of work on two weddings. When I try to copy files from the bad hard drive to another hard drive I receive the message "cannot copy filename because of I/O device error.

How can I get these files (about 200 GB) from the bad drive to the good one? Is there a way to get around the I/O device error.

If not, I have been able to copy the veg files for both of my wedding projects. My question is this? If I recapture the tapes on another drive and try to open the veg files that have already been copied can I just "specify a replacement file"? I would rather lose a day recapturing tapes than lose a week's worth of work.

Thanks,

Chris

Aside from a data recovery company, typically there is no way around this. I/O error means input/output error. You are trying to output (copy) the files to another drive, thus the I/O error. Some people have mentioned putting drives in a freezer and stuff like that in an effort to get one last read on the drives.

Assuming that the original files that were linked to the veg file are no longer available, this should work just fine.
