Speeding up a clip without speeding up the music.

My problem is that i have a video that came into the timeline without sound, so I edited and chose to shrink it from 40 min to 10 and it seems that as small as it can get.. so I speed it up to 1.30 then i decided to add the music.. but its on chipmunk sound.. how can i make the music have its own speed?
Thank you :)

Do you mean you changed the little triangle slider on the left to 1.3 so it would play back faster? That only effects the preview playback speed and does NOT change what is rendered. Move it back to 1 to see what you will get when rendered.

If you need faster that 4x, there are some options. Using what you have, render out the video, put that rendered video on the timeline, and speed it up again.

Or you could upgrade to the pro/full version of Vegas which also has a velocity envelope giving you up to another 3X increase for up to 12X before needing to render.

What you changed is what you're previewing on the screen. Once you output to some other format (i.e. output for DVD or a web format or whatever you're finally going to do with the video), it will NOT see the changes you made there.

Rendering is the general term for outputting the video into the format of your choice. Go to File - Render As to see your options.

1) Right-click on the video event you wish to speed up.
2) Click "Properties"
3) Adjust the Playback rate to suit.
If you speed up playback the video will repeat from the beginning point an amount necessary to fill up the original event length. (Easier to see than explain.) Note the wavy lines connecting the thumbnail images which indicate that the playback rate has been adjusted.

Manually adjusting the playback rate is exactly the same thing as holding down the CTRL key and resizing the clip. Only difference is that CTRL resize changes the size of the clip and manually changing the playback rate does not. Both methods change the playback rate.
