Split a clip

UFP wrote on 12/4/2004, 6:17 PM
Hi,
I just installed Vegas 5.0, but there is something I find strange:

- I simply want to split my clip at the point of my cursor

All other video editing software can do this, its even the basic function of Windows Movie Maker, why is it such a big deal in Vegas?

I only understand I can go to the trimmer, make a selection and than make it a subclip, but it takes a lot of time, and it is not easy I find.

My question: Is it possible to make a simple split?

Sure........it's simple......place the cursor where you want the split and press the "S" key. ("S" for Split)

When I want to learn a piece of software, I often go to the in-built help file, as it often contains information relevant to my problem and has often helped.

I simply want to find out how to use the software.

I understand other people do this, and It seems to be a basic, common practice for so many other people. Why is it such a big deal for some software users?

I understand that I can go to the effort of going online, posting a question on a forum and hoping for a reply to a very simple question that I could at least research a tiny little bit.

(ps. Press 'S' to split)
(pps the help file can be found under the menu labled help)

If you installed a full version of Vegas, you should have a help file which lists all KEYBOARD shortcuts.

Haha, ok I got your message, some questions maybe to stupid to ask on this forum, guess I should spend some more time on the help file.... Nice reply though :-)

Also if you take a look in the menus you will find Split in the Edit menu.

UFP -

There's nothing wrong with asking anything in the forums, and I'm certainly no-one to 'police' them - I was just tired at the time and wrote a rather sarcastic reply to your post. Glad you saw it that way instead of blowing up at me! :)

Hope you're having fun learning Vegas, it's a great app.

To refine the Splitting routine, highlighting one event and hitting S will split that event only.
Clicking in a vacant track to place cursor and hitting S will split ALL tracks at that point.
