"Split" command keeps getting greyed out

I'm ripple editing in the timeline and my "split" command keeps getting greyed out. Why might that happen? I can activate it again by clicking the event, but then I lose the precise frame that I wanted to split at. Thanks

CTRL-Click the event and the cursor won't move.

Thanks jetdv, that works. But I wonder what is actually causing the split command to get greyed out in the first place. It seems to be random and not just a question of focus to the track view.

Possibly because an event is selected, somewhere, but NOT one that is under the cursor. Alternately, you could probably also press CTRL-A to select everything or CTRL-SHIFT-A to deselect everything in order to get the command active.
