Is there a way, after splitting an event, to re-join the two parts? I know butting them together works, but can they be made into a single piece again?
There's no way to rejoin them back together. You could group them (select both events and then press "G"), but to get them back the way you want them -- as one single event -- simply delete the second one and drag the end of the first one out to where the second one ended.
I know it seems like a nuisance, especially if the second clip is a long one. You might need to zoom way out on your timeline to acheive this. Putting a marker at the end of the second event before deleting it may make it easier to drag the first one out to the same ending point.
Hi Tim,
I always wished there was a way to rejoin them as well, but his question got me to trying a few things. I know it's not practical time wise, but if you were totally anal about the thing, could you go to 'Render to New Track' and do that as an .avi file (I think you wouldn't loose quality that way, but not sure) and then bring it back down where you want it? Just experimenting. Cin :)
If your just did the spit you could just undo (Ctl+Z) also I have never used it but can you use the undo history to select certian edits or are they linier in process?
Thanks everybody for the great replies. I've used the CTRL-Z for inadvertent splits that I've caught in the short term and have also not used the undo history much. I will investigate all of the suggestions. I've also used the "grouping" thing and you are right about rendering the split just for neatness' sake - too much data loss with re-encoding, I suppose. Thanks for the suggestions!
Ctl+Z works good if you just split it, and just want to undo it, but as far as I know, the undo history works in a linear manner. You can click on the undo drop down menu to see your edits, but they can only be changed back in the order they were done I believe (but I have been known to believe wrong before) ;) Cin
