Click the "Split Screen" button that's just above the preview screen. There's also a dropdown arrow beside that button with many presets. I know it's in the pro version but am unsure if it's in the Movie Studio versions.

Jet may be right, but I'm not sure how to do his method. As an alternative to his method, you could add the cookie cutter effect at a track level to your footage above a copy of the same video you are working on. Make sure you set the cookie cutter to rectangular and cut your screen in half, then use your pan crop windows to align the footage so that you can see your changes real time. The built in split screen mode is pretty easy. This is the button that Edward (JetDV) is referring to:


Click on it to turn the mode on or off. By default it shows half the frame with affects and the other half without.

The little arrow next to it pulls up a menu of presents


You can pick one of these or in fact drag your mouse across the preview window to select an area.

I thought that the split screen mode was only available in the PRO version .. not the Movie Studio version.

And in the pro forum there's tons of questions saying "I add an effect but nothing happens" because they've accidentally turned this button ON and it's set to bypass on the full screen so they see NO changes. There's also the occasional "I add an effect but it only affects half the screen" question. It's one of the most useful yet misunderstood features there.

Osprey is using VMSP9, and it doesn't have built in split screen capabilities, does it? (I wish) Cin

I don't have that button on preview ... so I assume it's not in VMS 9 then ? ....... is there any add on or plug in that will give it. ?

As you add & adjust each effect be so much better to see finished result in split screen mode.
