Unlike Premiere' razor tool, I dont know of any other way of splitting an event other then using the S key--Maybe someone knows more?

Yes, take your mouse and hit the S key with it :-0

Contour Shuttle with programmable keys.
The jog shuttle alone is worth the price of admission, and the programmable keys are very handy. No need to take your eyes away from the screen to find the proper key on the KB, just keep your left hand on the Shuttle and edit away. I have the SuttleXpress and I love it.

Hi Grazie. Things are well with you I hope.

Open the Contour control panel.
Select Sony Vegas (4.0 in my case, 5.0 in your case).
Select the Contour key you want to modify the function for under Device Events Control-User action.
My case, the fifth.
Under Computer response, select Type Keystroke.
In the Keystroke box, delete what's there and simply type "s".
Hit APPLY and you're off and running. Or crawling in my case. ;-)

Mario! You STAR!

But but but . . . I'm greedy and I like all the exsisitng buttons and what they do .. well I COULD change this .. but what about all those "empty" buttons I've read about? I suppose I could "swap" ones I wanna keep and put the S key onto one of these .. yeah?

ARRGhh . .! I've done it! NOW THAT is FAB! .. . I'm speeding thru' cuts and splits now . . ! AND I can keep my eyes on the screen!

Mario, thank you,

Graze

...mmm, this CSP seems a great piece of gear...

Pierre,
I don't know what brand of mouse you use, but maybe there's a way to assign some keystrokes to your mouse's buttons.
For my part, I use the Wacom 5-button mouse and assigned the lower right button to the "s" key so I just have to scroll on the timeline and press this button when I "hit the split spot"...
I 'd rather be able to assign this to my wheel when I press it but I can't from my soft' options...
I wouldn't be surprised that some Logitech rodents could do that too... en tout cas j'espère pour toi!

"this CSP seems a great piece of gear..."

You ain't kiddin'! I've got button 4 programmed to start my dishwasher!

Actually, it's very useful. The jog wheel alone is SO helpful. I had a glitch in one frame. All I did was pause as close to the glitch and used the jog wheel to go frame by frame to locate the bad one.
If you get the Xpress like I did, it has fewer programmable buttons, but it's around half the price. Depends on your budget.

Merci, tous

(or "Thanks, all")

So the answer is, there is no "S" tool, you have to program it. I'll see if my logitech rodent will run that particular maze. If not, I might be able to program my favourite macro program (Macro Express) to do it.

Many thanks for the responses...

Pierre, you can also assign the 'split option" to any key on your keyboard, if you got V5. I know it's still the same problem but at least you can assign it to a more "easily visually reacheable " key...

By the way, which side of the Atlantic are you ? (just so I can figure out about your accent, haha!)
PierreB wrote on 7/26/2004, 6:07 AM
Hey FuTz, I do have V5 and will consider the key re-assignment, thanks.

Je suis du côté américain. ;-)

FutZ . .I just used Babel Fish on your French phrase . .. interested? Here yah go, "d'abord must be close" .. .er .. right .. . ?

Grazie

FuTz wrote on 7/26/2004, 12:59 PM

Quite close!
"D'abord" = "so"...
A French would probably have said "alors nous devons être voisins, pardi ! " or "dans ce cas, nous devons être voisins, pardi ! "...

Hee hee... so much fun with languages from region to region... and it's pretty rare to run into a french speaking folk around here
MyST wrote on 7/26/2004, 2:01 PM
Moi je suis aller a l'école englaise. Je réside au Quebec. Pour utilisé la langue d'ici... Lacher vous loose et trouver toutes les gaffs dans cette phrase. :-)

"Me I am to go has l'école englaise. I reside at Quebec. For used the language d'ici... To release to you loose and to find all gaffs in this sentence" . . right.

. .or the heading of this thread .. remember the moose and the splat clops? "Agrafes se dédoublantes avec la souris" . . now that's just plain silly. . . surely?
Grazie

You can do it all with the mouse via the edit menu. Having in via a right mouse click would be cool.
