No. I don't mean on the timeline. I mean in the project media window. Imagine capturing one long clip from your camera. I want to break that down so that I can place the clips in the media bins.

Thanks.

well if opening the file up in the trimmer and placing markers (which you can save I believe) - doesnt work for you . . .

I guess you would have to break it up during capture with the using the pause button

perhaps someone else has a better idea

if you are anxious to just get on with it, maybe just put it all on the timeline, like, way down the end - out of the way of the project. split it up there and let that be your makeshift media pool to draw from. at least everything will be chronological.

did you search the forums?

In the trimmer, mark the areas you want to keep using Regions (R Key) and then once you've got Regions defined, double click inside the region, then hit the "A" key. This adds that segment to the timeline. Don't touch the timeline, just let the cursor go where it wants to. Now double click inside the next Region in the Trimmer, hit the "A" key, and it will be added next to the first one. then when you're done getting those bits to the timeline, you can do a "Save As" and copy trimmed Media, then delete the long file.

Thanks all. I did search the forums, but did not find anything that was what I wanted. I think I want a solution that does not exist.

Thanks Spot. I had just today found out about "regions" from your Vegas 4 book (borrowed from a friend). Something I will definately play with.

I use Scenalyzer to split my long AVI clips. If you register it you can use it as replacement capture program in VMS6.
