Splitting/trimming video causes audio to mute

Hi everyone, I did browse the forums for a similar problem but was unable to find it, so here I am.

The problem happens when I'm cutting a movie file in the timeline (by splitting it and deleting the unwanted part) whilst I'm using the pan and crop to have a picture-in-picture effect with another video file. When this happens, the base video loses all sound. Mutes it completely and I can't get it back, even when I undo all splitting and changes, so I have to restart the project. The only way I can get around this is to open an individual video file on its own, split it, render it and then import the pre-trimmed video into my project. This can't be right though, surely? What's going wrong with the audio? The PIP video sound still runs fine, but the base video is mute. It's so annoying!

Thanks in advance,

Fal

Are you ensuring that the audio from your PIP video isn't "on top" of the audio on your base video? If that's happening, you need to make sure the audio from your PIP clip (rhyme heh) has its own track to make the audio from the two play simultaneously. You can just click, drag down to make it happen.

I'll go and check that now, but the audio is fine until I split video files, only then does the audio go awol! How is that affecting the soung? It happens whether I split the pip or base clip, or one at the end that has no pip over it! So strange!
