Spot? Apply FX on Media Pool Event?

Grazie wrote on 2/3/2005, 10:07 PM
Hello Spot - from 2 days ago . . How do you do this - "You can apply it to media in the media pool, so if all the offending media comes from the same tapes, you can nail it just once and have everything done." ?

I've been trying but I can't get it to work. Can do it on T/L, but not in MedPool? Please explain what you mean, by coming from the same tapes? Would be good if I could do this. Tried Sony FXs wont work. Tried my own Homegrown Filer Package - nope!

TIA

Grazie

I believe that Spot was referring to the fact that you can apply FX to any media in the media pool (right-click>Media FX). Of course, if you've got multiple files from the same tape, you've got to all of them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Spot.

That's exactly what I was referring to, Gary/Grazie.
If you've got footage where it was all shot say...out of white balance, just whitebalance/repair the shot, save the changes as a preset, and apply in the media pool to the avi that you cut the clip/scene out of. Then it's applied to the entire clip, so anything you take from that clip is now corrected. If you've got lots of clips from one shoot where everything was out of whack, you could save the preset and use Ultimate S to apply that to all selected clips, or just use the preset at the track level, and accomplish the same thing.

Ok - But, "Here's the thing!"

As with applying T/L FXs, by dragging, I was "dragging" FXs to MedPool. Mistake! Right cick instead, eh? Ok . . I can kinda can live with that. However, when I do it this way I don't get a green FX icon warning me on THAT clip/event already ON the T/L, that I've applied an FX .. . I can kinda live with that . .. well no, no I can't. I would really like to know I've done something to an Event?

The point I'm making here is that one can do something in 2 different ways, BUT, apart from having the same result - CC or in my case wanting to Saturate using my own FiltPack, you:

1/- Don't employ the same fundamental technique - drag as opposed to right click - which seems weird.

2/- Don't get the same "Warning" Green Icon result.

Comments?

I guess this will be another one chalked-up to my experience - my usual sideways view on Vegas and recognising that that which I do is often appealing for greater consistency of appraoch by Vegas. But there will be others who claim that I may not be consistent in my approach - was it EVER thus!

There is also an FX icon in the Media Pool, you can select a file there, and whenever you click a file in the Media Pool, it will light up green just like it does on the timeline. No, it doesn't light up on the T/L, but I'm glad it doesn't. If I can see FX on the clip, and no green indicator, I know it's applied at either track or Media Pool level.

"There is also an FX icon in the Media Pool," - Yup, quite correct.

" you can select a file there, and whenever you click a file in the Media Pool, it will light up green just like it does on the timeline. " - Don't understand this. " . . select a file . . " you mean FX file/package? When I try and click a MedPool file, I get nothing happenning - FX Menu is still holding focus?

"No, it doesn't light up on the T/L, but I'm glad it doesn't. If I can see FX on the clip, and no green indicator, I know it's applied at either track or Media Pool level." Great! This I can accept and has a creative value - good.

>> When I try and click a MedPool file, I get nothing happenning

There is an FX-Icon above the MediaPool. Now say you have applied a Media FX within the MediaPool to one out of three clips in the Pool. If you then click on that certain clip the FX Icon above the MediaPool will turn green. Klick on another clip in the MediaPool with no Media FX applied and the Media Pool FX icon will turn gray again.

"There is an FX-Icon above the MediaPool." - Yes, I got that far.

"Now say you have applied a Media FX within the MediaPool to one out of three clips in the Pool." . . . Ah-hah! I didn't say this? I said when I try the FX menu keeps the focus. So I can't get this. My post above explains what I'm doing to "attempt" to follow Spot's advice.

I'm gving myself a reeeeal hard time over this . . can't believe it . . :(
