SPOT: Some sound advice?

Hi Spot.

During the Sydney VASST, I spotted a BBE Sonic Maximiser plug, I think in sound forge. Do you use this often? I used one for years, and swore by it, but that was for live work.

Also, I have A TC Electronics Powercore Card in another PC, I was wondering whether you have used one, and if it is compatible with Vegas / Sound Forge. If it is, I'll more than likely wap it into my editing PC as I love the mastering tools on the card.

I'm not Spot but I have used the BBE plug-in. I used a rack mount verison for mixing in the past, so the plug-in was logical for me. I mainly use it on dialog tracks to keep them from getting muddy. Although I will say technology is better now all around so if you're not careful the dialog will end up being too bright. I used it originally because we were coming in from analog tapes tranfered to 35 mag. After that it became DAT tapes coming into an Amiga. Now it is mostly digital in some form coming in digital and going out digital. Don't have to worry too much anymore about dialog with what I would call "analog warmth" that could get buried in a mix that ended up compressed onto a tiny little mono optical track. DTS sort of shocked everyone into the digital realm...at least it did me. "Jurasic Park" was amazing but it freaked me out because it was a bit to "pure" and sharp sounding. Anyhow - pointless backstory - something I seem to be good at. ;)

I'm not SPOT either...

The Uad card works well in Vegas and even better in forge. Vegas still has a cpu munching bug floating around. I highly recommend it too The powercore only has VST plugins so they are not compatible with this version of V5 0r SF7. Unless you use a VST-DX wrapper from cakewalk or directxciter.

Hey Andy, I do use the BBE, and love it. I find it very useful on bass guitars, kicks, vocals, dialog, and acoustic guitars. I think that the tool was heavily overused for a period of time, so I'm somewhat judicious, but it really can do wonders for MP3 files as well, when they are a low bit rate file.
I also use the UAD on my studio system, wish it worked on the laptop, but no Cardbus version of the UAD. Great sounding stuff, I use the 1176 religiously.
Good catch on the plug! I didn't show it, or at least don't think I did. I rarely show the "paid for" stuff, because I don't want folks to think I'm advocating them buying more gear when they've already paid $$ to hear what I have to say and show w/Vegas.

http://www.directxfiles.com will satisfy your every DX plugin need. There are a few VST files there too.
You can buy the BBE for $99.00 USD, says it's on sale.

No, you didn't show it, I just caught the name when you loaded another plug! :)

You seemed pretty drained on the day, so I didn't want to bother you then.

As I said, I used it live for a long time, playing Bass in a Covers band, and I used to A/B the BBE for people, and the looks on their faces when it cut in was a sight to be seen! :)

ALL: I'll go check out the Powercore sight, I guess I'll have to brush up on what DX and VST are, I'm still not up on that one:

Lastly, SPOT: I'm fully aware, (As is my wife) about GAS, as I type I'm awaiting Sound Forge 7 with NR included. I swear that's the last thing I'm going to buy for my video editing. (Yeah RIGHT :)

Mmmm I wonder how much that BBE plug in is?
