Squeezed More Stability out off 595 . . . .

Having read the threads on Memory Leaks and the demands made by Thumbnails and ALL instead of Head<>Tail on Timeline Event redraws, I did the following:

1] Detail View in Project Media.

2] Head Centre Tail on Event Preview.

And what was a really sticky, icky opening project, now has that old feeling of "I'm in the throes of opening, so just be patient" and that infuriating "Spinning Circle of Damocles's" [SCD]!

Previously I'd get the SCD and my heart would sink. Now it's a case of: "You've made a terrific project here Grazie, just let me open all the draws of the filing cabinet and it will flash before your very eyes!" . . . and it does . . so far . . .

Now, this does not mean that 595 is not fit for purpose. What it means is that I am adapting my 16gb RAM, powerful PC to accommodate for "Code". 16gb of fast RAM and a card that is fully specced for the job? What else do I need to do?

I've been a loyal supporter of/for Vegas for 10 years plus. I want to see this s/w fly and work on my 64bit platform - as do many of us do - maybe, just maybe this IS turning out to be the Spook in the Machine: Memory Management misused by the CODE.

Again, I am NOT a programmer.

Here's looking at yer SCS!

Cheers

have to say i turned of thumbnails on tl in version 7 and never turned it back on - didn't know about the memory usage (ignorance is bliss), but couldn't see the point (well coming from linear one wouldn't i suppose).

i think you're on to something there grazie with the project view as well - things do SEEM snappier with list or detail view. this though is a pity since i work better with thumbs in there than text. also, no other nle seems to have this 'problem', if it is a problem....

keep digging there grazie ;-)

OK, another one - as a follow-up to the Tablet Driver issues.

I've had my Medion A4 Graphics Tablet plugged in. And I have a nice reassuring slowly flashing GREEN light in the corner of it. OK. I never actually got the ting into operation on this new PC. Put in new battery; loaded its drivers; frigged about with it this morning and got a jumping Pen Pointer. OOps . . ..

Did a Google and got back that I needed to Disable in services the W7 Tablet Service. Now the Pen don't skit about the place AND 595 appears more responsive.

As Leslie, supportingly says - I'm still digging.

Grazie

OK . . . .

Going in stages:-

A] Reduce Vegas Prefs to Detail View and H<>C<>T on frame T/L Preview

Better . . . .

B] Remove any redundant Tracks - tracks muted for previous creative options - Gone! And hit the Lightning Bolt.

Better . . . .

C] HAH!! Wouldn't yah know it a Pesky QT file that had been nice as pie, after I zapped that, the loading of 595 is consistently progressive - meaning that it doesn't any longer go through this cycling and recycling to open. And 595 "appears" stable.

Could it have been a something as simple as the QT file? - Isn't Vegas meant to play nicely with QT files? I rendered/made the QT from within Vegas.

But I have to say, things ARE looking up . . .

Cheers

seems there's certainly some problems with wacom + vegas + ati drivers judging by other posts.

i've been converting everything i get to vegas friendly files for years, usually mxf. don't feel comfortable with mov on tl - never have since endless problems way back in 7.

my last project (just wrapped) had 8 hours of mov files on the tl (no way was i going to convert that amount of footage, and since it was shot on a jvc dinkycam it wasn't up to much anyway). i had a couple of freezes, a complete shutdown (vegas), but otherwise it worked ok. rendered out to mp4's and dvd without incident.

as you might have gathered i'm wavering, i'm hoping the next point release sorts out the documented bugs, and adds some degree of stability, otherwise it's cs6 - and after being with vegas since 4, it's not a prospect i'm looking forward to - but i need my tools to make money, not cost me in wasted time figuring out what's going wrong.

as for nb titler. it seems to work more reliably with the latest release, but really, it's been a dogs breakfast till now.

grazie, just don't dig so far that you can't come up for air ;-P

have a good weekend

Leslie, this QT, although registered in Project Media, as being "Used 1", I cannot find it in EITHER Edit Detail View NOR Rosebud's GOTO script.

BUT, if I artificially drag it to the timeline it appears as being there in Edit Detail View AND GOTO script - which it then Goes To it.

So, to recap:

1] A QT Event appearing as being USED in Project Media Pane but not revealed in Edit Detail View nor GOTO Script.

2] I can get this QT Event revealed in Edit Detail View and GOTO when I drag it to somewhere on the Timeline.

3] When I delete it from the Project, Vegas appears to remain stable, and I don't get that annoying recycling attempt by Vegas on trying to open and then finally failing.

I would say that that Project Media Pane has a BUG related to QT files, and incorrectly reporting Usage which isn't true.

Grazie says, "Could it have been a something as simple as the QT file? - Isn't Vegas meant to play nicely with QT files? I rendered/made the QT from within Vegas."

In the past and with earlier versions of Vegas it was reported that when one updated QT they would start having problems with Vegas.

Whenever I see that dialog box pop-up asking me to update QT I just simply close it and never update it. Prevents problems in Vegas and keeps me from accidentally adding some other junk I do not want!

QT stands for Quick Trash! I hate it and I wish it was not necessary to run Vegas and some other apps that I have!

Apple makes changes to QT and everyone else has to clean up the mess Apple makes!

Grrrrr....

LOL!

Interesting but I have always had my thumbs set to list. I will have to see if this is something noticeable on our machines. Thanx Guys
