STANDARD DVD FROM HD VIDEO

Hello,
I record and render my video in HD 1080-50i (1920x1080, 25fps) and successfully produce Blu ray discs. Using the same video I render it as PAL 720 X 480 16:9 to produce standard definition DVDs and I have been doing this with good results for some years. However, on the last few occasions what I can only describe as a "blink" or black flash appears in the rendered video. The problem is definitely not in the camera but in the rendering.
Can anyone suggest a solution, please?

The last time I saw anything like that was early versions of V11 when using GPU to render. Changing to CPU cured it for me.

but as this is my retirement project I am not technically proficient. May I ask you to explain the terms GPU and CPU and how to change the settings.

To turn off Timeline GPU acceleration go to: Options | Preferences | Video and make are that GPU Acceleration is OFF.

For rendering it depends on the template. Some render templates are GPU accelerated and you can tell them to use CPU only and some are not. You would have to press the Customize button for the template to see these options. I don't believe the MPEG-2 templates give you this option so just turn off the one under Options Preferences and restart Vegas Pro to see if it helps.
