Sure. Do a search here or in the creative cow forum (www.creativecow.net). You'll get a better description there, but the basic idea is to start with a standard scrolling title, then use deformation effects to squeeze it in at the top, and flatten it vertically.
The deformation effects aren't part of the credit roll - they are separate video effects that you can use on any video clip. Click on the "Video FX" tab at the bottom left of the screen, then in the left hand list box, select "deform".
I made a 10 minute movie (RV Wars) around aerobatic / formation (dog fighting) flying with a Van's RV6 & RV4, I started and ended it with the classic scrolling yellow Star Wars text. After a bit of fiddling I got spectacular results.
I used the standard credit scrolling, then distored in the right shape, from full width at the bottom to a point at the top. At this point not only does it look funny (in shape) it also becomes very streached at the top and is distracting. So I simply masked out the top (about the top 1/3 to 1/4) with a resonable amount of feathering. Net result the text scrolls into infinity and not out the top of the screen.
It looks very natural!
question about this effect. The credits are written out in paragraph form right? I've noticed that the only way to do this is to use the single item line style in the credit roll. The only problem is as I type, the words just continue on throughout the line (and eventually off the screen). It doesn't automatically "jump" to the next line when you have hit the edge of the screen (as it does on any standard text document, such as this post I'm typing) Is there any way to change this or do you have to type one exact line and then enter down and type the next and so on and so on?
I was not that fussy, as my project never started out to be star-wars thing it just ended up that way, when I put it on Chienworks site I will explain the story behind its creation! More to the point however, is that no that has seen it, has ever made note of that fact.
I managed to mask out the top and bottom as in your suggestion but couldn't see how to exact any feathering. Can you offer some more advice on this - do I need to use a plug-in?
