Start Up Issues

Hey Everybody,

I'm new to the board and new to video editing. I'm working with Vegas 4.0 on a Compaq Presario laptop with a 1.3GHz Celeron and 512Mb of RAM. I'm also using an external HD connected via USB 2.0.

Here's my issue/question:
I'm seeing a blue screen in the preview window when I try to view some video. I've tried several things but can't see the video....

Any ideas on what might be causing my issue? (eg setting issue or HW limitation?)

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Ben

Is this in the regular Vegas preview window or in the Vid Cap capture util?
Are you not seeing video you are trying to capture or video playing on the timeline.

A hard drive using USB 2.0, probably isn't fast enough for video. Firewire is the way to go for video. Also not sure about the celeron. You can process video, but watching it may be another story. You'll have to wait for somebody with more knowledge than me to be sure, but I think I may be on to something.

Hi Eric,

This is in the regular preview window. I can't see video in the timeline or in the video capture utility. I basically can't see video anywhere.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply. I'm suspecting that it's hardwear related. I may need to get a desktop with a better processor, internal HD and DVD writer.
