STILL can't burn DVD w/DVDA2

I posted earlier about a problem with a small project, which failed toward the end of the disc with a "No Sense" error. But now, I've tried a full project, about 4GB in size.

It renders fine, prepares fine, and burns fine up to about 95%. At 95% of the track burning, the last 5% flies by, it gets to writing the leadout, and the progress bar just zips through to 100% and I get the error dialog box:

The Command Completed Without Errors.

And again, the detalis are always:
'SFMMCX'-(17)
'atapi'-(3)
-'TDK DVDRW840G 1.06'-(0)
Module sfmmcx.cpp Line 1455
The command completed successfully.
No sense.

Status: 00000000
Command:
Sense: 00 00 00
Info: 00 00 00 00
Specific: 00 00 00
Extra:

I tried a DVD+R at 2.4x and 8x (the only options offered). And again, I tried with and without the database. Of course, there's no possibility to try -R or -RW, as inserting a -R or -RW results in "no device found". But, it DOES burn successfully on +RW discs.

I'm using TDKDVDRW840G, and used this burner fine with DVDA1. I'm almost certain I have burned a previous project with DVDA2. It seems I can no longer use DVDA2 to burn my projects. I can use Nero, or DVD Workshop2 without a problem.

I'm going to try reinstalling DVDA2, and I'm copying this to a letter to tech support to see what they say.

I don't mean to re-post this message again, but my earlier post presnted 2 problems, the other of which was responded to (no -R(W) support). This error is more urgent.

The big question is: does the disc you burned work when you try to play it?

The reason I ask is that your burn process seems to be finishing properly (mine have always jumped over the last 6-10 percent on the progress bar).

I'm not up on my error codes, but the one you describe seems to be a "non-error" error--it says the command completed successfully, and all the return codes are zeroes.

Have you checked to see if there's a firmware update for your burner? These sometimes fix obscure and weird problems, after all.

I've burned a fair number of discs from DVDA2 to my Plextor PX-504A burner without any errors, so it sounds to me like a drive issue.

No, the discs don't play anywhere, not even the computer. If I try to open the disc up in Windows explorer, it tells me the disc is corrupted or in an unrecognized format.

What baffles me is this "No Sense" error, and the fact that I can write to DVD+RW with no problem. I have tried different DVD +R as well, but I prefer the TDK 4X, as that is my drive make.

And I DID make one disc successfully. I'm waiting for tech support to respond.

I have received exact same "No Sense" error message when using DAR2.0 with a TEAC DVD+RW drive and Memorex DVD+RW discs...the only difference is that my error appears within a few minutes of the burning process and nowhere near 95% complete.

I get the same error message from Windows when attempting to access the drive, and the disc does not play in my DVD player.

Running XP Home and have no other CD/DVD authoring/burning software installed except Vegas 5.0. (if that makes any difference...).

Can you burn playable +R discs with your TEAC DV-W58E?
If yes, what brand do you use?
Downee wrote on 5/23/2004, 10:14 PM
Kinda lame to reply to my own post but anyways, I flashed my TEAC DV-W58E with the new firmware from Dell. The Memorex 4x DVD+R's that didn't burn right previously now burn properly.... so far. And at 8x. They play on both machines I tested on.

Flashed the new firmware from Dell (thanks for the tip), but it still doesn't work on DVD+RW discs (haven't had a chance to buy any +R's). BUT, I'm working with Tech Support, since I am now experiencing total system hangs when attempting to burn to the Teac drive using Vegas or DVDA.

Interestingly, Roxio CDCreator will burn both CD's and DVD's on the Teac with no problem...

Will let you know what Tech Support says.

I am occasionally receiving the same error (at the 95% mark) while using the Plextor 708UF - meaning... I can burn 2 coasters in a row and receive this error message and then the third burn actually works - 1 coaster, next 2 burn fine - NOT THE MOST PRODUCTIVE or cost effective way to do business in my opinion :(

The discs also don't play, aren't recognized in Windows Explorer and sometimes lock up my PC.

Hi,

I never burn DVD using DVDA (1 or 2) so can't comment on this. But the best way for me is to output the final DVD to hard-drive first, then I can use PowerDVD/WinDVD to check to make sure menus... are OK; or use DVDShrink to make it to fit on 1 DVD if it is a wee too big (see problem with DVDA 1 & 2 final DVD size estimate post on this forum). Finally use Nero to burn (as many copies as needed).

Try burning with Nero instead. You can get a copy for $5. Seems to burn everything. See my thread here:
