Ermmm . .. can you expand this a bit? I'm sure others will know what you mean, but being a Newbie to VV firstly I'd like to know - and Secondly I may - may - have some feedback.

Cheers

Grazie: what he's referring to is the ability to output a group of still images, one for each frame, from video. Vegas has the ability to import a series of stills to become frames of a video, but not the other way around.

Sorry Chienworks, it was the, "one for each from, from video. . . . to import a series of stills to become frames of a video, but not the other way around. " I can't get my head round this either - I must be being thick - or the other way round!

Oh dear . . .

Grazie,

Basically what this would be is the ability to select a video clip in Vegas and then have the option to extract a sequence of still pictures (jpg, png, bmp) from it. So if you wanted a still for each frame, then a 1 sec clip would yield 30 picture files. Or you could choose every other frame or whatever. This would be good for rotoscoping (frame by frame editing). Right now you can extract a single still file from the preview but not a series.

Grazie: oops! My apologies. That should have been "one from each frame", and i've now corrected my previous post.

Got it now! Thanks Cjienworks and Sr_C for your time and patience.

So what you are saying that out there are some types of s/w that can extract 25 separate picture files from, say, a 1 second of PAL clip. Woah! Now there's a thought! This must be something you've all wished for in VV - yes?

Taking this a little bit further, there appears to be a need for VV to be able to "sprinlke" some form of markering system through a clip. I've read the thread regarding how would it be possible to pick out the "peaks" from an audio clip for the purposes of linking peaks to video; making links to peaks in say peaks in video movement. I suppose what I'm trying to say is the need for an ability in VV to "mark" a recurring event within a clip - yes? Now that they would be "mark" to apply some form of repetitive creative "effect" at the pint of the marker . . . Hmmmm . . I feel a solution coming on . . . .

Just a thought . . . VV comes from Sonic FOundry - home of music/audio s/w -yes? Wellll . . . my very poor music education talked about "beats" and time and metronomes and "bars" - is there not something within our VV package that could automatically generate some type of marker? I don't know . . I may be way way of beam here . . . but where there's a will etc etc . .

Ooooh if only . . .

Any takers on this?

Thanks again Chienworks - You got in before I was able to post my penultimate repsonse - If you read it I've started to think laterally about a solution - waddya fink?

Remember PiP?

Grazie: goto file -> properties -> ruler, change ruler time format to "Measures & Beats", and set the values below to match your music. This assumes you know the exact tempo of the song you're adding video to, but it works like a charm.

Grig: YES. I've been wanting that functionality for a long time. You have to assume it'll be a part of VV 4, should that surface. In the meantime I wonder if that's something Satish could whip up as a plug-in?....

Hi Luxo - Can you then "sprinkle" markers at each "known" beat - yes? Is there a way of setting up a macro to "deposit" a marker ON the beat say?

Here's a thought:

In the past, I have done this in Vegas:

Played the track, dropping markers on the downbeats for a few bars...

Switched the ruler to beats & measures and tweeked the tempo to line up the grid with the markers,
then drop a few more markers at the middle of the track (on beats) and tweek again for further refinement,
then again near the end of the track for final tweek.

This doesn't take too long, and then you can snap to the grid any beat or measure.
