Still Image Sequence help ...

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to produce an image sequence from the Vegas timeline to bring into Maya for some CGI work.

I noticed a post by Rob Mack on another forum where someone inadvertently stumbled across a way of producing an image sequence from the Vegas timeline using the 'debugger frameserver' or something or other.

Is there an easy way to make a bunch of TIFFs from an m2t sequence for example ?? Like clicking on 'Render / Image Sequence / Tiffs / Image Size 1280x720 / Filename 001 incremental ... etc etc etc ... ?

Any help appreciated.

Debugmode FrameServer is probably what you're thinking of.
You can also try the "Render Image Sequence" script that comes with Vegas Pro 8.
Be advised that it will only save JPEG or PNG images :-(

Yes.

There are a couple of ways. One is to use a script that will save shots from the preview window. Most likely these will be aspect corrected and might not be what you want.

The other method is to use Satish's Frameserver, which is free at www.debugmode.com.

Satish built a new option to export frame sequences and these will be at project size, without correction. So for instance if you were in an ntsc DV project the frameserver output would be 720x480. Scripts would give you 654x480.

Once you have it installed you'd select your region, select File/Render As and then save as DebugMode FrameServer (*.avi). After hitting the save button you'll get a configuration screen. Chose a path and an image type, then click Next.

I just noticed a caveat to this. Even though you aren't actually tring to make a signpost AVI, you still need to set that output to 24-bit rgb and THEN go through the steps to export stills.

Thanks Mike and Rob,

I'll try the Frameserver ... that looks great.

If it works great, send Satish a thank you. If it doesn't let him know about that too. Keep in mind the price :-)

I sent him a note back in November (I think) asking if this was possible. He got it done around new years day. Huzzah for Satish!

That is just excellent guys!

Satish should licence that for inclusion in Vegas as a default product.

If you've not used the frameserver, one of the compelling features is that it can essentially feed your entire timeline as uncompressed frames to an external program. Allows you to make an uncompressed intermediate without using HDD space.

That's insanely good Rob! The possibilities ... !

I'll send a note to Satish.

Thanks for your help.
