Still need help

Same problem as last november. VMS 6.0 will only start to the point that splash screen appears. I've deleted ane reinstalled the software three times, always getting the message that installation was successfull, but only manage to bring up the splash screen.

I've installed the software on a stand alone hard drive, but with the same results as on the "C" drive.

I am using a desk top PC with windows XP operating system. I do have virus protection, with automatic updates.

As always, any help will be appreciated.

Try going to Windows Update and clicking Custom so that you can install all of the non-critical updates that aren't installed automatically. You can often pick up important drivers this way.

You may also want to go directly to the nVidia or ATI web sites and manually download the latest drivers for your video card.

You'll be surprised how many buggy behaviors are fixed with some simple driver updates!

I'm going to suggest you look closest at Step 3 for Windows XP. This step provided the best results for me.

Of course, you can read through all the other steps as well.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

The first suggestion from item three of the link you provided seems to have reset everything so that the program now starts up as intended---every time so far!

You're welcome. The file in step three of the link I posted is a very interesting one. If you have the patience, you can open the file and edit it to do some cool things, instead of just deleting it.

But basically, if you've set a 'reference location' - such as a preferred folder inside of a Vegas app - and the drive, file or other is no longer available at Vegas start-up, instead of a dialog opening and asking you what to do (similar to what Vegas does for missing project files), Vegas just hangs or crashes.

When you said something about swapping hard-drives and application location(s)...I figured it had to be this.
