Still no time code in Pro10c...embarrassing!

I am a lone wolf - never need to collaborate, so timecode is a non-issue to me.
(Vegas 10c - never a crash)

But.

Peter and Mike say that they need a timecode for downstream viewers to be able to comment. You always had that ability, and I just delivered a few proofs to a client with the timecode in the window for them to reference in their comments. What am I missing?

Camera timecode? I could be mistaken (because I've never needed the feature) but to the best of my knowledge, Vegas never did use the camera timecode.

If you are saying that Vegas doesn't use time code from the camera this is not right. I couldn't use Vegas if it didn't show the time code recorded from the cameras.

Vegas never did use the camera timecode.

I'm just curious about which flavor of Vegas you use !

Erik, I totally agree about working without timecode--it 's like trying to find passages in books that have no page numbers
winrockpost wrote on 3/18/2011, 1:55 PM
camera timecode is not a feature, its how video gets logged, gets captured, gets edited, gets..
nevermind

The problem with this one is there is no workaround.

Sometime, I'm dreaming SCS product management makes a clear distinction between features release and maintenance releases in their code life cycle.

Mike, you can still do that. Just drop the Timecode plug-in on the master video bus and give them a continuous burn of timecode. I would think that would be much easier for them to handle than disjointed timecode from the media itself.

I agree with others that logging without timecode might be a problem. (oops)

...and in case no one caught the reference (or the smiley face) my quote was a take-off on Mel Brooks, Blazing Saddles ("Badges... we don't need no stinkin' badges")... one of my favorite parts of the movie.

Just to be totally sure about this item, it is THIS we are talking about? Yes?

Winrock,

Vegas can read ProRes 422. It doesn't read timecode, but it can edit ProRes (can't render to it of course).

Yes, this is a workaround, but the problem is,t he TC does not relate to the original footage. And if, for some reason, you lose your original capture, need to take your edit elsewhere or something similar, then the TC informatiion does not transfer. The reference needs to be fixed and consistent so that it is the same to everyone who touches or relates to the camera footage.

Ahhh... I see. Well, I've learned something new. (now watch... next week someone will ask me for timecode) lol.

Hi Folks,

The bug where timecode doesn't work correctly with Media FX has been fixed for an upcoming Vegas Pro update.

Thanks,
Dave

Well, knock me over with a feather. Thanks a lot for the communication. Wish we could get more of that!

"As you have used my words, Bob, please do NOT clump me into a category that at the same time wouldn't want this item fixed. And I say this for 2 reasons"

I have NOT clumped you into any category.

The question you asked to the group reads that you are asking for opinions, I offered an opinion. That opinion states quite clearly that by my conjecture you and I and the rest of us as Vegas users have been lumped into a category by SCS
If you have an objection to being lumped into a category or appearing to be lumped into a category then your beef is not with me, it is with SCS.

"And Bob, how do you know this to be true, that:-"

I carefully read what erikd said in his original post. He posits certain facts and draws a conclusion from them.

" then what you've posited has to remain pure conjecture"

Of course it is. If it wasn't conjecture we wouldn't be discussing it.
It wasn't posited by ME either, it was posited by erikd

Bob.

Head scratcher! Why did Dave find it necessary to edit his post and delete 10.0d.
Maybe 11.0 is a free update to license holders. ;-) Justa wondrin.

I don't care what they call it as long as they fix ALL the bugs without introducing any new features.

DaveT2..... I know vegas reads prores...its the timecode that is the problem.... I have 2 , 1.5 TB drives from NASCAR,,broll from last season all logged for edit.... ain't worth a sh$% with Vegas... avid reads it premiere reads it hell I think fisher price edit for babies reads it,,, I have to do 2 huge projects with another application...I like vegas and want to do it in vegas but can't, unacceptable in my view

but hey I'm just trying to make a living here.
