Stop helping!

Anyone have a workaround for this WinXP feature? Every time I switch on my Canopus ADVC100 so I can view an external monitor off the Vegas timeline, XP automatically turns on Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus. I close Studio but the External Monitor button won't connect to the TV from Vegas--until I turn the ADVC off & on several more times.

WinXP is trying to 'help' me connect to a consumer program and I'm trying to go pro. Argh.

How about uninstalling the pinnacle app?

vital - try this:

When you plug in your Canopus, does some kind of icon briefly appear appear in your system tray? (when I plug my Sony camera in, I get an icon) Double-Click the icon, which should bring up a menu of things Windows can do automatically when this device is plugged in. Choose "take no action" or a Vegas option if you want that to happen. Make sure you check the "do this every time" box.

This should stop the insanity. I agree, far too "helpful." I like to turn as many "helper" things off as possible in XP and in other software.

This procedure also applies to things like when XP recognizes an audio disc in a CD drive, I think. I turned all this stuff off so long ago I've forgotten the many "helping" hands XP extends.
