Stop text scroll at 50%?

O.k., so it's late and I've gone brain dead!

I've got video footage that's completely black in the lower half of the screen, with people running around in the upper half.

What I'd like to do is have a text scroll that shows up against the black, then disappears as it reaches the people in the upper half.

There must be a simple way to do this -- maybe I can figure it out in the morning, but need to finish the edit tonight if possible.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Go to the pan/crop window of the text event and create a mask that only lets the half of the screen you want pass. Alternatively, you could create a mask on the event with the people running around and only let it show through on the half you want. The later may be a better approach if you have several text events - you'll only have to create the one mask...though it is quite easy.
