stretching phote

I have a single frame from a video that I'd like to fill the first 5 seconds of a project with.

i've split the video after the first frame. i've moved the rest of the event to the right by 5 seconds. I've deleted the audio from the first frame of the video. when i try to drag the single frame from the right, to the right, to fill the void i've created, it simply recalls the original video content, rather than stretching out the single frame. how do i fill this 5 seconds with just the first frame of my video?

Control + stretch. And this will give you a few more frames, which you then copy/paste in the timeline.

Put the cursor on that frame so that it's displayed in the preview window. Set the preview to Best / Full. Click the little floppy disk icon above the preview window. This will save a still image file of that frame and it will show up in the project media pool. Drag this still image onto the timeline.
