Strong static noise when working with a Vegas Pro 20 file

Because of a lightning strike, I recently bought a Dell G 15 laptop. And I got a subscription to Vegas Pro 20 after using Vegas 14.0 for years. All was well until I attempted to play a file I’d been working on before in Vegas 14. There was a strong static sound coming from the right speaker, not really like a hiss but old fashion static noise. I could hear my audio track “below” the static but the static was dominate.

Also, if I tried to play something in Windows Media player, the strong static sound was also now there as well. Even after I closed Vegas, the strong static sound persisted on Media Player or any other sound device.

I had to reboot to get back to normal with audio but if I opened Vegas again, it was back to the same thing. I’ve never run into this before; it seems like, from my limited understanding, that Vegas is affecting the whole sound side of my laptop.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I’m stumped at this point. Thanks so much.

@Charles-Mcmillion Static with Dell laptops has cropped up before. Search the forum for "Dell static" and you will find several threads.

In particular DOUGLAS-ROSS's post at the end of this thread may help https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/static-on-playback-r-stays-until-computer-restart-on-all-programs--126246/#ca793171

Not necessarily have to be a fault of Vegas..... First make sure that your system Audio driver is updated and configured correctly.
