studder/frame by frame effect

in final cut, there is an effect that makes the video playback as if it is playing in stills------the level can be adjusted so the (seemingly) still holds for 1 frame, 10 frames, 20 frames, and so on. then it will pick up on the next image of the video clip and does the same. is there a feature in vegas that can do this as well?
thanks.

use the Velocity envelope set to zero, or clip out the frame you want and repeat it. There are also scripts like Ultimate S and others that can extract a frame, repeat it for as long as you'd like, and then move on.

Beyond what Spot said, you might also want to look at the "Undersample" rate.

no, the velocity line doesn't do it, and i don't want to repeat the same frame, rather, i want the video to play back in multiple freezes, as if i took a 20 sec clip and every second created a freeze frame and then played them back to back-----its a nice effect-----i used to do it manually (which took forever) in final cut, untill realizing there was a preset effect for this------i don't see an option in vegas for this though.

didn't do anything----thanks for the feedback though

i want the video to play back in multiple freezes...

I think that is what Spot gave you instructions for. Using the 20 sec. scenario you gave, cut out the frames you want to show for each second in the clip (In your example, this would be 1 frame per second=20 "freeze frames"). Now, place them back-to-back and you have what you want per your post. (make sure though that when you capture an image from the timeline, the preview is set to "Best Full" before you click the floppy disc icon to save.

yes, but i'm wondering if there is an effect or plug-in that does this-------way too much work the other way.

Do you want the video to play back in real time rather than slow motion? As Edward said, use undersample rate. Right-mouse-button click on the clip, choose properties / media. The default undersample rate is 1.000, which shows one frame of the clip for each frame of the finished video*. If you want to show one frame for every 10, type in 0.100. For one out of 20 type in 0.050.

*Well, assuming the source video and output video have the same frame rate, but that's just a technical detail.

oh, it does work-----parameters are limited, but what it offers will help with my current purpose----------thank you
