Movie studio 9 platinum edition
Set up to burn as 5.1 surround but coming out as 2.1 (stereo)?
Importing from Sony HDR-SR12E camcorder. Project set as 5.1. When imported, can see the three audio channels. When I output to burn ( Sony BDX-S500U ) as 5.1 it says it has completed but when I play on my stand alone Sony Blu - Ray Player, it shows as 2.1 (b-r player plays 5.1 no problem). B-R Player is connected to Sony Amplifier via coaxial connect.( also tried optical) Sony Amplifier has A.F.D (auto format decode).
So it must be burning process.
Can someone please help?

How did you render your project (what settings did you use? Did you use ac3 encoding)?

Do you have another way to check the disc? For example, try use Mediainfo (free download) or re-import the disc back into VMS. VMS should automatically detect it.

Thanks for the reply. The best thing to do it to tell you step by step what I'm doing.
1. Proj name....
2. Region.... Europe
3. Output... Bluray disc
4. Audio... 5.1
Pull one clip down into timeline...
1st one I did all the speakers show audio, 4. front, 5.centre, 7.left but no audio in 6. L.F.E and visual movie clip was in 1. Text.
The 2nd clip I did all was the same as above but had the movie clip moved down to 3. Video.
Then I pressed Make a Movie button at top. Select burn to blu ray/ dvd and next selected bluray disc.
Next window entitled Burn Blu Ray Disc this is the information that is shown before I hit OK which starts rendering and then burn.
Operation... Render image and burn
Render parameters..
Video format...Sony AVC(*.mp4; *.m2ts; *.avc)
Video template...Blu Ray 1440x1080-60i, 15 Mbps video stream
Audio format...Sony Wave64(*.w64)
Audio template...48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, 5.1, PCM
Description... Audio...48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, 5.1, PCM
Video...15.0 Mbps, 29.970 fps, 1440x1080 wide
Render loop region only....ticked
Insert chapter point as markers....ticked
Drive parameters....
Burn drive....[G:] Sony BD RW BDX-S500U 1.D1
Eject when done..
It then goes Rendering and the burns to disc. Hopefully you can help with this info provided. I am a novice and really only want to transfer my films onto Blu Ray to keep the HD quality and 5.1 surround as stereo is what I'm getting just now.
I have a few other questions but would like to get this resolved first... Thanks again..

Am on the US East Coast and still have electric power (thanks Irene!), so I'll try to answer...I don't usually burn blurays, but I often render to .mts with 5.1 ac-3 soundtrack. I haven't had issues with that.

Note that you have more control over how you render using "render as" in the file menu.

Two things....

1- Check out the file that you render to see if it 5.1 sound using MediaInfo or similar. We need to know if the it is the file that is rendered that is the issue or the Bluray player.

2- Try downloading the trial of VMS11 and see if it works in that verison. Make sur eyou make a copy of your project file because once you use the project file in V11 it gets updated and is not backwards compatible.

Hi again,
I followed your instructions and it looks like were on the right path. I put a clip down onto timeline and went to render as in drop down from Project. There I was able to Save as type : Dolby Digital AC-3 and select Template as 5.1 Surround DVD.
As soon as I save it renders and presume correctly. Only thing is I don't know how to burn this new rendered file as the only way I know it to goto Make a Movie. And by doing this, it takes me back to same problem. I have to pick Bluray, then disc, then it's to what I said in last message. It wants to render again with Sonywave64 as the only choice. Can the new render be burnt to disc without going through Make a movie?

I think you can create a BluRay disc from those using 3rd party free software (eg multiAVCHD), but you should be able to do take your original approach and render/burn using VMS. My approach was to render as .mts file (gives 1920x1080 with 5.1 surround sound as AC-3). I stored the files on a PS3 or streamed to the PS3.

You still haven't tried the following -

1 - Check you rendered file using mediainfo. If it registers as surround sound, then the issue is your BluRay player

2- Try rendering with VMS 11. You can download a free trial. Preview is much faster for AVCHD.
