Yes, you need to download an MJPEG codec, such as Mainconcepts.

Thanks Dave but download from anywhere in particular and will this affect the quality?

If you do a search on the web for MJPEG codec, you will find a couple of different sources. There is usually a fee associated with them.

Some people might say that one codec decodes better than the other. I haven't used them, so I can't say for sure. I think you will find some demos.

Thanks again Dave.

I've just downloaded the Morgan MJPG V3 code. I will try it tonight when I get home.

I have just dpownlaeded and installed the full version of MainConcept MJPEG CODEC.

Shouldn't it now be available in V4, too?

Actually I can't see it in S7, either.

Maveric, I used to capture in Vegas Video 3c from my Hi8 camera and then load it into S7 with no problems. I did this until I figured out vegas was better, too about a month to figure it out. I never did try to import the S7 capture davi into Vegas though. I never saw a need to go back.

The only wau I can capture Analogue is through my Hi8 camera so I am a little stuck this way.

As I have limited Hi8 and other analogue stuff it isn't really worth me investing in a Canopus.

Out of interest what are the best settings for rendering for editing in V4?

Matrox has a free motion jpeg codec. Well, I assume it's free. I've never used it as I only use the matrox codec I download from their site when i needed to playback from a matrox RT board. Howver, it is included with their VFW codec's (also included Matrox DV, DVCPro, DVCPro 50, mpeg-2, m-jpeg).

Just capture as an avi as you would normally in S8. Vegas should read the S8 captured avi.

Yes it should do but it doesn't.

I am in PAL land if that makes a difference.

I tried the Morgan MJPG V3 codec. It does allow direct import of video captured via DC 10+ but I'm getting jagged edges when the camera pans.

I suspect this is the codec because if I render the video to AVI in Studio first and then import into Vegas, I don't get the jagged edges.
