Studio Deluxe breakout or ADVC 1394?

I have had the SD 1394 OHCI breakout for about one year. When I out grew studio7 due to its lack of control and support (Pinns forum was great thanks to some non pinnicale good people), I downloaded the demo of VV3 and tried to use the SD card. I then would get dropped frames. This could of been something I was doing wrong in my setting due to my lack of knowledge with VV3. So I purchased canopus's ADVC1394 card because I have heard good things about canopus and the ADVC1394. Once installed, no problems then. Did I jump to quick? Sure did like that breakout for convenience setting right out there instead of cables hanging every where. And I have not reinstalled SD to try it out again, just because its a pain to install the drivers and the canopus is working. I was hope'ing someone could help with their opinion. One has to go.

Thanks!

Although any OHCI compliant 1394 should work with Vegas, you probably made a good choice. Since you are familiar with the Pinnacle forums, I won't comment further ;?)

Here's a little background in one of DSE's articles:

I am in no way sure that this is the case, but some of the Pinnacle boards are 1394, but NOT even close to OHCI compliant. Some are.

The Studio Deluxe uses a firewire card as well as an analog converter input. The firewire side is OHCI compliant, but the analog inputs are proprietary. Meaning you have to use Pinnacle software to capture from analog.
