Well, yes and no. Yes, virtually all video files are compressed to some extent so you will lose quality each generation. But, no, quite possibly not that you will notice.

DV-quality AVIs are virtually lossless. You can transfer them back and forth from computer to camcorder for several generations before the quality loss will be at all significant.

So, yes, if you're talking and digital video, feel free to send it back into the computer, edit out the hiccup and send it back out the camcorder.

You don't lose quality when transfering between camera and computer, that is just a file transfer. You might lose a little quality if you add an effect, but only in the area of the effect.

It is only when it has to re-render that the quality loss is introduced, but as it has been tested on this and other forums, the quality loss in one or two passes is minimal.
