Subtitle on Bluray problems

I am facing strange bluray behaviour again:
- I have a bluray with only one video (V1). This video has two subtitle tracks (ST1/ST2).
- The Bluray have one menu with two buttons:
Button 1 should start V1 with subtitle track ST1
Button 2 should start the same V1 with subtitle track ST2

When I test this within DVD Architect 5.0b everything works fine. The subtitles are selected and displayed.

Then I burn it to a BD-R.

For an unknown reason my bluray player (Sony BDP-S300) is ignoring the subtitle command and keeps the subtitle switched off – so I don’t see any subtitle. (I can choose the subtitles manually with the remote control – they are perfectly present)

I tried to burn a down converted DVD of exactly the same setup. This works fine – exactly as it should. (also played in my Sony BDP-S300)

I have to deal a lot with subtitles. And I like a lot the ease of DVDA with subtitles when I did DVDs. But this is my third post related to problems with subtitles on Bluray.

It seems that every time I am working on a Bluray Version of my disks I am facing something not working – And I have to find a complicated workaround. Is there a general Problem with BD Subtitles? How is this addressed by Sony? Does anybody have any information?
Thanks for any Information.

Hello!
Is there nobody out there who have to deal with more complex bluray´s? Or using subtitels on bluray´s? Is there nobody facing the same issues?

I would be glad for any help!

Well, it could well be that the problem is unique to you, Thomas. I've never heard of anyone have a problem getting their subtitles to work.

On the other hand, home-burned discs functions very differently than pressed, commercial discs, so it could be that your BluRay player is the problem. (In the DVD world, Sony was, strangely enough, one of the last to make their DVD players compatible with home-burned DVDs.)

Have you tried this disc on a friends player?

Have you loaded it into your computer and played it with your computer's BluRay player software?

In order to trouble-shoot this, your first step is to ensure that it's the disc and not your disc player that's the fly in the ointment.

Thank you so much! You are right!
I can´t believe I did not think about this myself. I double checked a Bluray Disc in my computer drive and it worked while my Sony BDP-S300 Player ignores the commands.
This still leaves some unexplained questions:
- The DVD Version of the same Disk works well even when played in my BDP-S300. But I think the DVD may be whole other world.
- More interesting is that I can very well play burned Blurays of a partner company in my BDP-S300, which are using the same kind of Menu Structure than my disks. And with there Blurays my BDP-S300 works as it is supposed to work. I believe they use the Adobe Encore to do there Blurays. So there must be still some kind of connection to the Authoring software. (strange: A sony player ingore the commands from a sony software - but follow adobe commands ;) )
I will go to a TV Shop and have a test there with other Bluray Players. Lets see which one want to follow the commands… I will let you know.
That leaves me with the old problem that on the Bluray Version of my disks, the Chinese subtitle Track can not be marked as “Chinese” – as this still causes DVDA to crash while preparing the disk. I have to mark it “English” or any other language to make it burn… stupid, but I can live with that.

Thanks again!
