Subtitle questions

I don't have DVD Architect yet, but I have some questions about subtitles:

1. Will DVD Architect import text media ("titles") from Vegas to use as subtitles?

2. If I am starting a DVD project from scratch, would it be better for me to create subtitles in Vegas or DVD Architect?

3. Can DVD Architect import titles from other editing packages such as Premiere Pro or Avid Xpress to use as subtitles?

1. Sort of. DVDA will import Regions from Vegas as subtitles. You create regions in your Vegas project, name them with the subtitle text that you want, and export them to a file. You can then import that file into DVDA to use as subtitles. Trouble with this is you can't use regions for anything else in that Vegas project.

2. Probably easier do do in Vegas. Probably what I'd do is create the regions in Vegas, give them abbreviated versions of my captions, export them to a file, and then edit the file in Notepad.

3. I've no idea what formt Premiere or Avid use in their subtitles, but I posted descriptions of each format that DVDA will import a while back. Search the forum for "subtitle" and for my username. Then you can compare them to the subtitle files that Premiere and Avid export (assuming you have examples of those).

I found that thread thanks. Very useful.

I'm also investigating the free Subtitle Workshop, which looks good at first glance.

-as far as I know DVDA2.0 will import regions from Vegas.

"2. If I am starting a DVD project from scratch, would it be better for me to create subtitles in Vegas or DVD Architect?"

As far as I know the best way to create subtitles, "in my modest opinion", is definitely with DVDA2.0. There's a timeline there. You just have to insert subtitles with DVDA 2.0 and choose the language as it will be shown by the DVD player or import subtitles from other applications such as Subtitle Workshop (download it for free at VideoHelp.com). Ops, I almost forgot this: you can export subtitles too. It's important to note that you'll always work freely, always previewing what it will look like. I'm sure importing regions from Vegas is a good method as creating subtitles with the excellent Subtitle Workshop (that unfortunately does not support AC-3 files - you'll get no sound!). I just prefer DVDA2.0. I'm sure you'll like it too.

-don't know, but don't worry. You'll won't ever need Premiere and Avid anymore.
