Suddenly won't open...

Thomas-Zirkle wrote on 11/10/2020, 1:45 PM

I'm using Movie Studio Platinum 14.0 on Windows 10.

Today, for the first time, it just wouldn't open. I just got a "Problem Report" asking if I wanted to report the problem. (Report Below.)

I went to the website to try and re-install. I'm pretty sure I registered years ago (When it was owned by Sony.), but I had to register again at the new site. ...which meant registering my software again, etc. Unfortunately, I can't find the serial number and I can't open the software to get it. Ugh.

Any advice? I'd really appreciate it...

Thomas

Reïnstall is not needed.
Try these steps

1. Load and install newer drivers for CPU ( and/or GPU). Try again after starting Windows again.
2. Did it not help reset the program, that is better than reïnstalling, following exactly this : https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

Thanks for the quick reply, j-v!

Pardon my ignorance, but updating drivers for the CPU sounds like a "snipe hunt" to my ears. 😀

I found the hardware in settings, but couldn't find a way to update the driver.

When I followed the instructions on the link, I ran into the same problem above: The app. wouldn't start and I got the same error window with the exact same error message.

Then you have to give here more information about the hardware you use for VMS PL 14:
- Which processor exactly
- Is there a GPU ( Graphic Processor Unit) available and so yess which one?
You will find them on your Control Panel / Device Manager / Display Adapter and Processor

Thanks for the suggestions j-v!

I figured out a workaround that will work long enough for me to update my software to a newer edition. If I open a file (not the shortcut to the app), it seems to open without trouble. It also will open correctly in "Safe Mode."

I was able to reinstall the software and it did fix the problem.

I have the Intel(R) HD Graphics 630

and I have 8 listings of the same CPU that you have--although mine are @ 4.20 GHz.

I appreciate your time, but unless this suggests something helpful to you, I'll just work around the problem until I can update my software. This one is pretty old, it might be fun to get some new "bells and whistles."
