What type of artifacts are you looking to remove?

What sort of artifacts?
That term covers a zillion things and most of them cannot be removed but if we knew a bit more I could give a more precise answer.

the little blocky ones...i had to brighten up a darker aree of video and as a result the footage shows little square blocks in random pots when i veiw it on a monitor...

i thought they were called artifacts..no?

Yes, those are artifacts, but the term "artifact" is very general and can describe a number of issues. What you're describing are "macroblocks." Here is a link to a filter for Virtual Dub, but can also be used from within Vegas using Satish's plugin.

MSU Deblocking Filter v2.1

Satish's WAX plugin

(I don't think WAX works in Vegas v6 yet.)

hmm

i tried the wax with the vdub plugin (in vegas 5) and i get an error message.."unable to find video length...please check if you can scripts...wax needs that ability..."

well i think vegas 5 can run scripts and i have not turned anything off on scripts ..so...head scratching?
