Here is some info on the FX1 image quality.
1. Cinema Frame 25 mode clip; progressive type camera output; although this a compressed WMV video, not the raw files, check the quality; use divx player to playback, not windows media, which is slow and jerky on most systems

This guy works with pro HD and Pro SD every day. See what he has to say. FX1 blows pro SD and compares favorably to pro HD. Note that HDCAM tape is 3:1:1 but it outputs also 4:2:2 via HDSDI interface:
I don't know when progressive capture is going to arrive, but I don't think the lack of is a big deal. This thing makes great video. I deliver onlined content to television stations everyday and the FX-1 blows away every flavor of SD and stands up admirably next to 4:2:2 HDCAM and 4:4:4 Viper, I watch them both regularly.

This man shot a lot of XL2 footage, then chose FX1; even when the Sony HDV footage downconverted to SD, it looked better than XL2's footage:
I shot some footage at the same location with both cameras, and I had to admit to myself that the FX1 HDV material downconverted in camera to DV (Firewire into a Canon) looked better that the straight Canon DV. Note that I was shooting in 16:9, since that is the only format I really need since I work in the broadcast sector.
