I haven't owned this camera, but have interest with it.

Check the website and download Insta360 Studio for ONE X. It's just been updated on Feb 2nd 2019.

https://www.insta360.com/download/insta360-onex

I guess the workflow will be preparing the footage from camera, to this application, 'merge' front and back shots first.

Once you have it, put the merged footage to Vegas Pro 16 and use 360 plug-in FXs to reframe and reposition the shot.

I have just done a test: it works more or less with the plug-in Scene rotation, putting it before Pan/Crop.
I don't know why, but the Dynamic RAM preview doesn't works with the mp4 file generate with the SW Insta360 Studio 2019.

siro, was curious what your settings are when importing the insta360 one x? i am getting a black holes at the nadir point, did you ever find a solution for working with these files? powerdirector edits them perfect, no problem

set wrote on 4/2/2019, 4:06 AM

Try put it in MediaFX rather than in most Event FX

this file is from the insta360 1X converted to mp4 with instaone studio. it plays correctly in vlc and powerdirector with no black nadir spot. i can easily edit and export as 360 video with powerdirector with no black nadir point spot. v16 displays the equirectangular view correctly but then the nadir spot shows as soon as i select 360 edit mode. event 360 scene rotation can not fix the nadir spot.

would really like to figure this out as i have been using vegas since version 9 and know it really well and would like to upgrade from 15 to 16 to be able to use all the 360 features

this shows the equirectangular view with no nadir spot

this shows the 360 edit mode with the nadir spot, event 360 scene rotation can not fix this

this shows the powerdirector 360 edit mode with no nadir spot

ynp wrote on 4/2/2019, 1:44 PM

did a render with v16 in equirectangular view and it still shows the nadir spot, see image. the 360 does play correctly where you can pan zoom etc

vlc 360 shows nadir spot

Andra-Williams wrote on 4/2/2019, 9:07 PM

FYI, I did get rid of the spot by setting the insta360 to shoot in 4k and then setting the project to 4096 x 2048. I know it's not the maximum but no spot for now.

thank you will give that a try

It is impossible to me eliminate the black spot. Is due to the fact that Vegas can not make projects bigger than 4.096 x 2.880, while the video file coming from the Insta360oneX are: 5760 x 2.880.
Another limit of Vegas. 😤
I reduced the problem setting the Rapport L/H pixels at 1,3333 (HDV 1080) in the projects properties.

ynp wrote on 4/3/2019, 12:27 PM

thank you sirio and andra, i can either shoot in 4k on the 1x or export the 5.7 from the insta studio at 4k and then they both work in v16 with no black spots. hopefully sony will add support for the 1x

A black spot is everytime a hint that the resolution ratio is not correct in the project settings. If the input is 5760x2880 the project settings must be 4096x2048 for the same ratio.

ynp wrote on 4/7/2019, 6:26 PM

another key setting is when you render in vegas to check "allow source to adjust frame size"

Sirio wrote on 4/11/2019, 5:13 AM

Hello all, I even found better.
I completely eliminate the black spot: In the Rapport L/H pixels settings don't put 1,3333 (HDV 1080), but put manually 1,4000.

Ah, so here's the thread....

My suggestion workflow:

Make 1st project that follows the source's aspect ratio, in this case 2:1 - so it is 2160x1080, and then make guide for 1920x1080 if you want a precision output (or 1080x1080 if you plan to make it square). With this way, you can put Scene Rotation and Tiny planet FX as EventFX, and you can sync the timeline cursor between the FX page and main timeline page. Much easier to work rather than MediaFX.

After done the editing, hide the guide, Save this 1st project as 1st VEG.

Now make new project, put 1st VEG project file to new project, set to output 1920x1080 (or 1080x1080), do pan & crop to crop the side.

Render to your desired output.

set, this is way above my head but you are saying this is for reframeing a 360 through the whole video using keyframes and scene rotation?

Yes, this is for reframing the 360 video to 'normal' video.

If your output still whole 360, just go render with the source media's aspect ratio setting.

Vegas 17: problem solved:😊
Now you can reach projects until 5.760 x 2.880 with the Rapport L/H pixels at 1. And setting in the Pan/Crop > Source > Maintain aspect ratio: on No. It works perfectly.

Idem for the projects at 1920x1080, the secret is just select No in the Pan/Crop > Maintain aspect ratio

I consider the problem solved.

@Sirio Thanks for the 360 info. Just trying out V17 edits with insta 360 one x. Got rid of the nadir spot with the info above - thank you! But my final rendered file says it's 4192 by 2112 not 5760 - I guess that's becuase I'm outputting 16:9 from insta360 studio. What are you rendering with for best 360 output (e.g. for you tube 360 playback)? I've only got the MAGIX HEVC/AAC codec to work for you tube uploads. With 'allow source to adjust frame rate' selected, to keep the 5.7k footage. Then VBR max 48, avg 28 and RC mode VBR high quality.

Hello,

If you want export a film in 360 playback, first of all you have to go in the Project properties and check the option "360° Output" (on the left).
For the rest I tried to export in 5760x2880, but unfortunately there is no output format that can support this size, is too bad. 😟
Even making Menu>File>Share Online>Upload on YouTube.
There you have even a smaller resolution.
I am sorry

gabgilson wrote on 8/28/2019, 5:09 AM

@Sirio  I understand, thanks for the update. 360 render working and I think 4192*2112 is still bigger than you tubes 4k streaming, so this is still a good setting for online use.

Can someone share with me your workflow for rendering insta360 footage? I am having a hard time getting it to render properly. Thanks Tony

this still doesn't work properly. you cannot render out a 360 project, unless you disable '360 output' in your project and then reinject 360 metadata with tools from from youtube.. ticket is ongoing but very very slow
